SIFLC

About SIFLC

The club teaches responsible investing and gives members hands-on market experience, with the aim of helping each student reach financial independence.

Why we exist

Many students want to build wealth, yet few are given the tools. SIFLC lets members turn classroom knowledge into practice by following a student-managed portfolio and by learning to research a company and defend an investment idea, all in plain language.

What members do

General meetings happen on Thursday evenings. Workshops cover budgeting, credit, loans, saving, and the building blocks of investing, and members research companies in teams while following the club's $100,000 paper portfolio. Speakers from industry visit each semester, and pitch competitions run inside the club and against other schools.

Membership

General membership is free this fall and open to every enrolled Texas Southern student, whatever the major. Certifications such as SFEPD are optional and any member can pursue one.

Where we meet

We meet at the Jesse H. Jones School of Business, Texas Southern University, and the campus address is Texas Southern University, 3100 Cleburne Street, Houston, Texas 77004.

Leadership and oversight

Students run SIFLC through an elected e-board and work with a faculty advisor from the Jesse H. Jones School of Business. An investment policy statement governs the student-managed portfolio, and the e-board adopted a constitution and by-laws to guide the club.
