SIFLC

Frequently asked questions

Answers about joining the club and how meetings and the portfolio work.

Who can join SIFLC?

Any enrolled Texas Southern student can join, whatever the major, and nobody needs finance experience.

What does it cost?

General membership is free this fall, so there are no dues to pay before your first meeting.

When and where do you meet?

General meetings are on Thursdays at 7:00 PM in the Jesse H. Jones School of Business. The home page and our Instagram list the date and room for each one.

Do I need to know anything about investing?

Prior knowledge is unnecessary because the workshops start from the basics and the member manual walks through every step with one example company.

Is the portfolio real money?

The portfolio is a $100,000 paper portfolio on MarketWatch, so it runs on real stock prices and pretend dollars. Mistakes cost nothing and teach a lot.

What is a stock pitch?

A stock pitch is a short presentation that recommends a stock. After researching the company and writing a thesis, you estimate what the stock is worth and defend your view to judges, who score the pitch out of 100 and write feedback. The internal pitch competition runs in the spring.

What are the certifications?

SIFLC supports certification study, including the SFEPD certification planned for spring 2027. Any member can take part and none are required to.

How do I get into the member manual?

Members receive the club passcode at meetings and through club channels, then use Member login at the top of any page.

Will there be guest speakers?

Professionals visit every semester, and this fall's event is the SIFLC Energy Finance Roundtable.

How do I join or reach the club?

Email tsu.siflc@gmail.com or message us on Instagram. Anyone who would like to meet the board first can come to an interest meeting.
